Stepping Out in Bling

One of the things that I love about our neighborhood is the shops that cater to the current population.

The neighborhood is predominantly African-American, and the Latin American nations are strongly represented: Dominican Republic, Mexico and Ecuador lead the way.Β  Sunday best still means something in these cultures and the shop around the corner provides fancy footwear for ladies, small and…well…not so small.

With gentrification, however, some changes are not necessarily improvements. I hardly ever see this shop open anymore. Not a good sign. Soon, such shops will not be so mundane.

  1. When I see shoes in a window in NY, I think of Carrie Bradshaw and Sex and the City. Although, I know that’s not what you were going for, as this appears to be a smaller, more localized shop.πŸ™‚
